Architektura-MURATOR student competiiton in 2002 asked participants how to show the spirit of a chosen city, to show it what it actually looks like. My answer focused on how the experience of a city gradually looses its emotional value and intencity. Repetitive sequence of images, sounds, their order and dynamics is put aside into periferies of consciousness. Showing a city from top or bottom, showing particular undiscovered places doeasn't show the real city which we live in. As artist Robert Irwin prooved, after staying for a certain time without any stimuli, you experience surroundings in a very different way, even for a couple of hours. Similar effect happens when we leave cinema. A pitch black box made of black glass which opens its automatic door when someone passes nearby invites you to come inside and "feel" the city as if it was seen for the first time when you leave.
