Changing the Face was a competition for modernizing the Ratunda building in Warsaw in 2013. Rotunda is a true icon of Warsaw. Although the charming pavilion is in principle just a bank building it is also the focal point of the city, a physical version of Google Pin. The content of the building doesn't semm to cause this gravity, the interior is cut off from all the hustle: friends meeting on the square, ascending from underground passages, circling it looking for a familiar face. In a way the ROtunda is a beehive without an entrance, can we open the tin can? We propose to remove the bank and hand over ROtunda to the public, making the building a fundamental part of Warsaw's infrastructure. By removing redundant parts clean Urban Room comes into being. A alrge new stair could be placed inside. By extending the underground passage to the basement of Rotunda both the subterranean level and ground level become more attractive. The stairway can double as grand stand, an auditorium, arena or an ideal place to meet your friend! Rotunda becomes a kind of "stepwell", no longer will it revolve around money, now human capital can strat flowing.
